Designers’ Series
Inspirations
We are always on the hunt for inspiration and what is trending around the world. What better way to stimulate our creativity through searching and looking at works from famous and rising designers all over the world. Our newsletter goes beyond giving tips for renovations and our projects but we also would like to inspire our readers. In this newsletter, we begin this series with Sabine Marcelis a designer living and working in Rotterdam the Netherlands.
Sabine Marcelis is a name that you will hear rolling off designers’ and design collectors’ tongues currently. Sabine is known for her sophisticated work which is light and feminine. She enjoys playing with neon colours mirrors and light. In fact, when you look at her work, you realize she tends to go for materials that allow subtle transparency as well.

Neon Lights Galore
Sabine Marcelis is known for many different installations and artworks such as her Solo Sundial installation, The Shape of Water installation commissioned by FENDI, and her unique take on a Lazy Susan.
However, in this newsletter, we will be looking at her distinctive circular neon lights. The pieces she designed in the Voie Lights series can be looked at and classified as both light fittings and light sculptures.
In fact, in an interview with yatzer.com Sabine mentioned that “ The experience is the function. They are aesthetic objects with a function that create a moment of wonder. We can’t help but agree that not only are these lights functional but they give just the right amount of magic to any home/gallery. Indeed a splendid masterpiece! We can’t help but drool at these pieces!

I’d like to create something you haven’t seen before, or that causes a moment of wonder.”
