Shopping malls are a common sight in Singapore, which therefore means that retail shops are aplenty in this land too. How then can one shop compete with another? We believe it is all in the appearance and the story a shop has to offer. Making a great first impression is the smartest way to go in this market and economy. In this newsletter, we will be bringing you on our journey of designing Richard Atelier. They might just be a shop selling glasses but with the use of
effective interior design, people are buying into the story more than the product itself. It is all about packaging!

First Impression

Inspired by a desert, the shop is creatively decorated with cacti. One of the first things you see is a bathtub plopped in the middle of the place with sand and cacti in it. The design of this shop will be sure to get people to stop in their tracks. They might not need a pair of glasses but the appearance of the shop is bound to pique their interest.

Desert Holiday

Be transported to the desert. Forget about the city and the bustling nature of the mall when you are in this shop. We effectively replaced elements with items that
represent the desert. For example, we replaced the legs of the shelving with cacti and sprinkled the bottom with sand to give the illusion of a desert,

We carefully chose little corners in the shop to incorporate the desert island fantasy using cacti, sand, and metal buckets. We left the rest of the place bright with the colour white and just played with textures. (Designs below are by Baum Project)

Another design highlight in the shop is the lighting. Our main designer was personally on the site to supervise the placement of the lights in a Baum design. We also decided to look into the details and leave no place in the shop untouched. Therefore even though the wall were painted white, we played with textures.
